Al Shawkani Exegesis – Surat Al Kahaf
(Surah No 18) 110 Ayah
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance (1).
All The Praises, Thanks, Glorification & Exaltation Be To Allah (SWT) [Creator Of The Heavens, Earth & All Other Creation For Revealing The Glorious Qur’an To His Servant (Muhammad) And Has Not Built-In Any Deviance Or Crookedness.
[He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward (2).
He (SWT) Has Made The Glorious Qur’an Of Top Value & Rate [In Content & Text] Thus Giving A Warning From Him (SWT) To The Blasphemous Disbelievers And Gave Glad Tidings To The Muslim Believers Who Perform Righteous Deeds That They Shall Receive A Descent Reward.
In which they will remain forever (3).
In Which The Righteous (Muslim) Believers Shall Dwell Eternally.
And to warn those who say, “Allah has taken a son” (4).
And To Give A Stern Warning To The Jews, Christians, Pagans, Atheists, Blasphemous Disbelievers Who Assert That “Allah (SWT) Has Begotten Children Or Offspring.”
They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; they speak not except a lie (5).
No Knowledge Have They Of Such A Thing, Nor Had Their Fathers. Mighty Are The Words Which They Uttered [i.e. He (SWT) Begot Sons, Daughters & Offspring]. They Utter Nothing But Troubled & Confused Lies.
Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow (6).
And Oh Muhammad If After The Blasphemous Disbelievers Of Makkah & Medina, Upon Hearing Your Recitation Of The Glorious Qur’an And The Message Of Islam They Disbelieve You, Turing Their Backs To You In Disbelief & Disgrace, Then You And Out Of Despair, Anguish, Despondency & Hopelessness Committed SUICIDE.
Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed (7).
Verily! We (SWT) Have Created That Which Is On Earth As An Adornment For It, In Order That We (SWT) May Test Humankind As To Which Of The Creations Best In Deeds. [That Is, Those Who Perform Descent & Righteous Deeds In The Most Perfect Manner For Allah (SWT) & In Accordance To The Legal & Justifiable Ways Of Islam & The Prophet Muhammad].
And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground (8).
And Verily! We (SWT) Shall & Will Make All That Exists On The Earth Bare Dry Soil (Without Any Vegetation Or Trees, etc.).
Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder (9)?
Or Did You Think That The People Of The Cave And The Inscription (The News Or The Names Of The People Of The Cave) Were A Wonder Among Our Signs?
[Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, “Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance (10).
(Remember) When The Young Men Fled For Refuge (From Their Disbelieving Folk) To The Cave, They Said: “Our Lord! Bestow Upon Us Mercy From Your Grace, And Facilitate For Us Our Affair In The Righteous Way!”
So We cast [a cover of sleep] over their ears within the cave for a number of years (11).
Therefore We (SWT) Covered Their Sense Of Hearing Causing Them, To Go Into Deep Sleep) In The Cave For An Unknown Number Of Years.
Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time (12).
Then We (SWT) Raised Them Up From Their Sleep, So That We (SWT) Might Test Which Of The Two Parties Was Best At Calculating The Time Period That They Had Been Procrastinated.
It is We who relate to you, [O Muhammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance (13).
We (SWT) Narrate Unto You (O Muhammad) Their Story With Truth. Evidently They Were Young Men Who Believed In Their Lord Allah (SWT), & In His Guidance & Enlightenment.
And We made firm their hearts when they stood up and said, “Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke besides Him any deity. We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression (14).
And We Made Their Hearts Firm And Strong With The Light Of Faith In Allah (SWT) And Bestowed Upon Them Patience To Bear The Separation Of Their Kith, Kin And Dwellings, etc.) When They Stood Up And Said: “Our Lord Is The Lord Of The Heavens & The Earth, Never Shall We Call Upon Any Deity Other Than Allah (SWT); If We Had, Then We Should Indeed Have Uttered An Enormity In Disbelief & Blasphemy.
These, our people, have taken besides Him deities. Why do they not bring for [worship of] them a clear authority? And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah a lie”? (15).
“These Are Our People Who Have Taken Gods (Deities) Other Than Allah (SWT). If Only They Bring A Clear & Obvious Authority? And Who Is More Wrong & Unjust Than He Who Conceives & Invents Falsehood Against Allah (SWT).
[The youths said to one another], “And when you have withdrawn from them and that which they worship other than Allah, retreat to the cave. Your Lord will spread out for you of His mercy and will prepare for you from your affair facility” (16).
(The Young Men Said To One Another): “And When You Withdraw From Them, And That Which They Worship, Except Allah (SWT), Then Seek Refuge In The Cave, Your Lord Will Open A Way For You From His Mercy And Will Facilitate Your Affair (i.e. Will Give You What You Will Need Of Provision, Dwelling, etc.).”
And [had you been present], you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [laying] within an open space thereof. That was from the signs of Allah. He whom Allah guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He leaves astray – never will you find for him a protecting guide (17).
And You Might Have Seen The Sun, When It Rose, Declining To The Right From Their Cave And When It Set, Turning Away From Them To The Left, While They Lay In The Midst Of The Cave. That Is Amongst The Ayat (Evidences, Or Signs) Of Allah (SWT). He Whom Allah (SWT) Guides, Is Rightly Guided. However, He Whom Allah (SWT) Leaves Astray, Shall Not Find A Protecting Guide To The Right Path.
And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror (18).
And you would have thought them awake, while they were asleep. And We (SWT) Turned Them On To Their Right Sides And On To Their Left Sides, With Their Dog Stretching Forth His Two Forelegs At The Entrance [Of The Cave Or At The Space Near To The Entrance Of The Cave (Guarding The Cave Gate)]. Had You Looked At Them, You Would Certainly Have Turned Away From Them Escaping Their Terror & Extreme Fear.
And similarly, We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a speaker from among them, “How long have you remained [here]?” They said, “We have remained a day or part of a day.” They said, “Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you.
Likewise, We (SWT) Woke Up The Cave People From Their Long Deep Sleep So As To Question One Another. A Speaker Amongst Them Said: “How Long Have You Dwelled Here?” They Replied: “Perhaps A Day Or Part Thereof.” They Said: “Allah (SWT) Alone Knows Best Of How Long You Stayed”. So Delegate One Of You With This Silver Coin Of Yours To The Town, And Let Him Find Out Which Is The Descent Good Lawful Food Intake, Bringing Some Back To You With Care & Confidence.
Indeed, if they come to know of you, they will stone you or return you to their religion. And never would you succeed, then – ever.”(20).
Because, If & When They Are Aware Of Your Presence, They Shall Stone You (Abusing & Harming You) Or Force You Back Into Their Religion, And Thus You Will Never Be Successful.
And similarly, We caused them to be found that they [who found them] would know that the promise of Allah is truth and that of the Hour there is no doubt. [That was] when they disputed among themselves about their affair and [then] said, “Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them. Those who prevailed in the matter, Said” We will surely take [for ourselves] a Masjid Over Them” (21).
And Thus We (SWT) Made Their Case Known To People, That They Might Proclaim & Disclose That The Promise Of Allah (SWT) Is Genuine & True And There Can Be No Doubt About The Arrival Of The Hour [& Resurrection Day]. Remember, When They (The People Of The City) Disputed Among Themselves About Their Case, They Said: “Construct A Building Over Them, Allah (SWT) Knows Best About Them,” (Then) Those Who Were Triumphant Said: “We Will Indeed Build A Place Of Worship Over Them.”
They will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog – guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muhammad], “My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone.” (22).
(Some) Say They Were Three, The Dog Being The Fourth Among Them; While Others Say They Were Five, The Dog Being Their Sixth, Guessing At The “Concealed & Invisible”; Yet Others, Say They Were Seven, The Dog Being The Eighth. Say: O Muhammad “Allah (SWT) Knows Best Their Number; None Knows Their Number But A Few.” Thus, Do Not Debate About Their Number, etc.) Except With Definite & Clear Proof [Which We (SWT) Have Revealed To You) O Muhammad]. And Do Not Consult Any People Of The Scriptures (Jews and Christians) About (The Affair Of) The People Of The Cave.
And never say of anything, “Indeed, I will do that tomorrow,”(23).
And Do Not Say About Anything, “I Shall Perform Such And Such A Thing Tomorrow.”
(24)
Except [when adding], “If Allah wills.” And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, “Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct.”
Except By Saying, “If Allah (SWT) Wills!” And Remember Allah (SWT) If You Forget And Say: “May Allah (SWT) Guide Me Unto A Nearer Path Of Truth, Rational, Reasoning & Discretion.”
And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and exceeded by nine.
And They Dwelled In Their Cave Three Hundred (Gregorian) Years, And Exceeded By Nine Years.
Say, “Allah is most knowing of how long they remained. He has [knowledge of] the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth.
How Seeing is He and how Hearing! They have not besides
Him any protector, and He shares not His legislation with anyone.”(26).
Say: “Allah Knows Best How Long They Dwelled In The Cave. With Him (SWT) Is (The Knowledge Of) The Unseen & Invisible Of The Heavens & The Earth. How Clearly He (SWT) Sees & Hears (Everything)! They Have No Protector Other Than Him (SWT), And He (SWT) Is Unique In Existence, Does Not Share His Decision, His Rule, His Dominion, His Power & Energy.” With Any Other.
And recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changer of His words, and never will you find in other than Him a refuge (27).
And Recite Oh Muhammad What Allah (SWT) Revealed To You In The Glorious Qur’an. Recite It Frequently, Comprehend It, Follow Its Teachings Acting On Its Orders And Preach It To Believers. None Can Change His Words (SWT), And None Will You Find As A Sanctuary & Asylum other than Allah (SWT).
And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His countenance. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect (28).
And Keep O Muhammad Yourself Patient Amongst Those Who Call Upon Allah (SWT) Their Lord (i.e. Your Companions Who Remember Allah (SWT) With Glorification, Praising (Du’a) In Prayers, etc., And Other Righteous Deeds, etc.) 5 Times A Day & Night, Seeking His Submission & Acceptance. And Oh Muhammad Do Not Let Your Eyes Overlook Them, Desiring The Promptness And Glitter Of The Worldly Life; And Obey Not He Whose Heart We Have Made Heedless Of Our Remembrance, One Who Follows His Own Lusts & Desires And Whose Affairs (Deeds) Have Been Lost.
And say, “The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills – let him believe; and whoever wills – let him disbelieve.” Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place (29).
And Say, Oh Muhammad: “The Truth Is From Your Lord (SWT).” Then Whosoever Wills, Let Him Believe, And Whosoever Wills, Let Him Disbelieve. Verily, We (SWT) Have Prepared For (Unjust, Polytheists and Wrong-Doers, etc.), A Fire Whose Walls Shall Surrounding Them. And If They Ask For Help (Relief, Water, etc.) They Will Be Granted Water Like “Boiling Oil”, Which Will Scald Their Faces & The Rest Of Their Flesh. Terrible, Miserable & Deplorable Is Their Drink, And Evil Is Their Resting Place!
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of any who did well in deeds (30).
Verily, Those Muslim Believers Who Submitted To Islam & Performed Righteous Deeds, We (SWT) Shall Not Let Their Worldly Good Deeds Be Lost & Their Recompense Will Not Go Astray.
Those will have gardens of perpetual residence; beneath them rivers will flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place.
Those Will Get The Recompense Of Jannat Al Naeem (Paradise) Beneath Which (Rivers Of Everlasting Gardens) Flow. Ornamented & Adorned With Bracelets Of Gold, Wearing Green Garments, & Brocade, Of Fine And Thick Silk. Reclining Therein On Raised Thrones. How Superb & Outstanding Is The Reward, And How Excellent Is Their Dwelling & Resting Place [Murtafaqa].
And present to them an example of two men: We granted to one of them two gardens of grapevines, and We bordered them with palm trees and placed between them [fields of] crops (32).
And Put Forward To Them The Example Of Two Men; Unto One Of Them We (SWT) Had Given Two Gardens Of Grapes, And We (SWT) Had Surrounded Both With Date-Palms; Placing Between Them Cultivated Green Crops.
Each of the two gardens produced its fruit and did not fall short thereof in anything. And We caused to gush forth within them a river (33).
Each Of Those Two Gardens Brought Forth Its Produce, And Did Not Unjustly Treat Any. And We (SWT) Caused A River To Flow Amongst Them.
And he had fruit, so he said to his companion while he was conversing with him, “I am greater than you in wealth and mightier in [numbers of] men” (34).
And He Had Property (Or Fruit) Saying To His Companion, In The Course Of Mutual Talk: “I Am More Than You In Wealth And Stronger With Respect To Manpower.”
And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself. He said, “I do not think that this will perish – ever (35).
And He Entered His Paradise In An Unjust State To Himself. He Said To Himself: “I Think That This Paradise Shall Never Exterminate.
And I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return.”(36).
And I Do Not Believe The Hour Shall Ever Arrive. And If Indeed I Revert Back To My Lord, (On Resurrection Day), I Shall Definitely Find A Better Return Than This When I Return To Him (SWT).
His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, “Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man?
His Companion During A Dialogue Said To His Colleague, Conversing With Him: “Do You Disbelieve In Him (SWT) Who Created You Out Of Dust Then Out Of (A Mixture Of Male Sperms & Female Egg Discharge] “Nutfah”, Then Shaped & Fashioned You Into A Man?
But as for me, He is Allah, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone (38).
However, He (SWT) Is My Lord And I Do Not Associate With My Lord Allah (SWT) Any Deity Or Partner.
And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, ‘What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah ‘? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children (39).
And Upon Entering Your Paradise You Should Have Said: ”Whatever Allah (SWT) Wills Shall Come To Pass”. There Is No Power Other Than That Of Allah (SWT). Even If You Observe Me Less Than You In Wealth, Affluence & Offspring.
It may be that my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden and will send upon it a calamity from the sky, and it will become a smooth, dusty ground, (40).
Maybe That Allah (SWT) Shall Grant Me Something Better Than Your Paradise, Sending Upon It “Husban” (Torment, Bolt, etc.) From The Skies, Then It Will Become a Slippery, Dusty Earth.
Or its water will become sunken [into the earth], so you would never be able to seek it (41).
Or The Water Of The Garden Will Percolate Deep Into Ground So That You Would Never Be Able To Seek.
And his fruits were encompassed [by ruin], so he began to turn his hands about [in dismay] over what he had spent on it, while it had collapsed upon its trellises, and said, “Oh, I wish I had not associated with my Lord anyone” (42).
And So His Fruits Were Encircled With Ruin. And He Started To Ring His Hands With Sorrow Over What He Had Spent On It, While It Was All Destroyed On Its Trellises, He Could Only Say: “If I Had Ascribed No Partners To My Lord”.
And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allah, nor could he defend himself (43).
And He Had No Group Of Men Other Than The Assistance Of Allah (SWT), Nor Could He Defend Or Save Himself.
There the authority is [completely] for Allah, the Truth. He is best in reward and best in outcome (44).
There (On The Day of Resurrection In The Hereafter), The Kingdom, The Authority The Protection & Power Will Be For The Majesty Of Allah (SWT) Alone, The True Deity. He SWT Is The Best Reward & The Ultimate End. [La Ilaha Il-Allah (SWT) & No One Has The Right To Be Worshipped But He].
And present to them the example of the life of this world, [its being] like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and [then] it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds. And Allah is ever, over all things, Perfect in Ability (45).
And Strike To Them The Example Of The Life Of This World, Like The Rainwater Which We (SWT) Release Down From The Sky, And The Earth Vegetation Mingles With. Becoming Fresh & Green. But Later It Becomes Dehydrated & Desiccated Which The Winds Scatter. And Allah (SWT) Is Able Over All Things, In A Perfect Way.
Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one’s] hope (46).
Worldly Wealth & Offspring Are The Adornment & Embellishment Of Worldly Life. But The Good Righteous Deeds [Five Compulsory Muslim Prayers, Deeds of Allah (SWT)’s Obedience, Descent Talk With Muslims {As Well As Non-Believers}, Remembrance Of Allah (SWT) With Glorification [Including, Daily Recitation Of The Glorious Qur’an] Praises And Thanks, etc. Last, Better With Allah (SWT) For Rewards And Are Better In Hope & Achievement & Accomplishment.
And [warn of] the Day when We will remove the mountains and you will see the earth prominent, and We will gather them and not leave behind from them anyone (47).
And Caution & Warn Them Of The Day Of Resurrection When We SWT Shall Cause The Mountains To Pass Away (Like Clouds Of Dust), And You Will See The Earth Surface Like A Level Plain Field. Gathering Humankind Altogether & Leaving None Behind.
And they will be presented before your Lord in rows, [and He will say], “You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time. But you claimed that We would never make for you an appointment.”
And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, “Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?” And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one (49).
And the Book (Worldly Human Life Record) Will Be Placed [In The Right Hand Of A Believer In The Oneness & Singularity Of Allah (SWT), And In The Left Hand For A “Disbeliever” In The Oneness Of Allah], You Shall See The Nonbelievers [Polytheists, Sinners, Criminals, etc.], Fearful Of That Which Is (Recorded Therein). They Shall Say: “Woe To Us! What Sort Of Book Is This Which Leaves Neither A Small Thing Nor A Big Thing, Not Recorded With Numbers” And They Will Find All That They Did, Placed Before Them, And Your Lord Allah (SWT) Justly Treats All His Creation.
And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam,” and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.
And (Remember) When We (SWT) Said To The Angels; “Prostrate to Adam (The Father Of Humankind.)” So They All Prostrated Except Iblis (Shaytan). He Was Amongst The Jinn; He Disobeyed The Command Of Allah (SWT). Will You Then Take “Iblis” And His Offspring As Protectors And Aids Rather Than Me Allah (SWT) While They Are Enemies To You? What An Evil, Miserable & Deplorable Exchange For The Polytheists, Criminals & Unjust.
I did not make them witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth or to the creation of themselves, and I would not have taken the misguided as assistants.
I [Allah (SWT)] Did Not Have Iblis And His Offspring Witness To My Creation Of The Heavens & The Earth Nor Their Own Creation, Nor Was I Allah (SWT) To Take The Misleaders As Helpers.
And [warn of] the Day when He will say, “Call ‘My partners’ whom you claimed,” and they will invoke them, but they will not respond to them. And We will put between them [a valley of] destruction (52).
And Recall The Day When He (SWT) Shall Say: “Call Those So-Called Partners of Mine (SWT) Whom You Claimed.” They Will Cry Unto Them. However, No Response Is Issued From Them, And Hence We (SWT) Shall Create A Valley Of Reprimands & Perils.
And the criminals will see the Fire and will be certain that they are to fall therein. And they will not find from it a way elsewhere.
And the Criminals, Polytheists, Sinners & Unjust, Shall & Will See The Hell Fire & Comprehend That They Have To Fall Therein Without Any Escape.
And We have certainly diversified in this Qur’an for the people from every [kind of] example; but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute.
And Indeed We (SWT) Have Revealed In The Glorious Qur’an For Humankind From All Possible Examples. However, Humankind Has Been Aggressive & Offensive More Than Any Other Creature.
And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples or that the punishment should come [directly] before them.
And Has Prevented Humankind From Believing In Allah (SWT), The Guidance Of The Glorious Qur’an Has Come To Them, And From Asking For Amnesty & Pardon Of Their Lord. Except That The Ways Of The Ancient Civilizations Be Repeated With Them (i.e. Their Destruction Decreed by Allah (SWT), Or Their Torment Facing Them.
And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. And those who disbelieve dispute by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth and have taken My verses, and that of which they are warned, in ridicule.
And We (SWT) Did Not Sent Messengers Except As Givers Of Glad Tidings And As Harbingers. But Those Who Are Blasphemous, Dispute With A Falsehood Argument, In Order To Rescind & Refute The Truth Revealed In The Glorious Qur’an. Treating Its Ayat As A Laughing Stock & Anecdotes Jest & As Mockery!
And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance – they will never be guided, then – ever.
And Who Is More Aberrant & Unjust Than He Who Is Reminded Of The Ayat Of The Glorious Qur’an, But Turns Away From Them Forgetting What Deeds His Hands Have Perpetrated. Truly, We (SWT) Have Placed Veils & Screens Over Their Hearts So That They Would Not Be Able To Comprehend The Word Of Allah (SWT). We Have Also Placed Deafness In Their Ears. And If You (O Muhammad) Invite Them To Your Message Of Islam They Will Never Be Guided.
And your Lord is the Forgiving, full of mercy. If He were to impose blame upon them for what they earned, He would have hastened for them the punishment. Rather, for them is an appointment from which they will never find an escape.
And Your, Lord (SWT) O Muhammad Is The Oft-Forgiving & Merciful. If He (SWT) Were To Enforce & Oblige Them For What They Deserve & Merit, He (SWT) Would Speed-Up For Them Their Torment From Which There Is No Escape.
And those cities – We destroyed them when they wronged, and We made for their destruction an appointed time (59).
And Those Cities & Towns Which We (SWT) Destroyed When Their Populations Were Unjust, Did Wrong & Were Intransigent. We (SWT) Determined & Designated A Fixed Time For Their Destruction.
And [mention] when Moses said to his servant, “I will not cease [traveling] until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue for a long period”(60).
And Thus When Prophet Musa Said To His Servant Boy: “I Will Not Give Up My Travel & Search Until I Reach The Crossways Of The Two Seas Or Carry On In My Travel & Search.”
But when they reached the junction between them, they forgot their fish, and it took its course into the sea, slipping away (61).
However, Upon Reaching The Juncture Of The Two Seas, They Forgot Their Fish, And It Took Its Trajectory Through The Sea As In A Tunnel.
So when they had passed beyond it, [Moses] said to his boy, “Bring us our morning meal. We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, [much] fatigue.”
And So When They Moved Further On (Beyond The Fixed Place), Prophet Musa Said To His Servant Boy: “Bring Us Our Food, We Have Undoubtedly Suffered Much Strain & Exhaustion In This, Journey Of Ours.”
He said, “Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed, I forgot [there] the fish. And none made me forget it except Satan – that I should mention it. And it took its course into the sea amazingly”.
He Replied: “Do You Remember When We Betook Ourselves To The Rock? I Verily Forgot The Fish There And None But The Shaytan Forced Me To Forget To Remember It. It Took Its Track & Trajectory Into The Sea In An Astonishing Way.
[Moses] said, “That is what we were seeking.” So they returned, following their footprints (64).
Prophet Musa Said:” That Is What We Were Looking For”. And Thus They Returned Tracing Their Own Footsteps.
And they found a servant from among Our servants to whom we had given mercy from us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge (65).
Then They Found One Of Our Servants (Named Al Khidhr), Whom We Had Bestowed Mercy Upon From Us (SWT), And Whom We Had Taught Knowledge.
Moses said to him, “May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement”? (66).
Prophet Musa Said To Al Khidhr: “Can I Follow Your Footsteps So That You May Teach Me Of The Knowledge (Prudence, Vigilance & Wisdom Path) Which You Have Been Taught By Allah (SWT)?”
He said, “Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience (67).
Al Khidhr Responded Saying: “Verily! You Will Not Be Able To Have Patience With Me!
And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge“? (68).
“And How Will You Be Able To Have Patience About Something Which You Have Little Or No Knowledge Of?”
[Moses] said, “You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order.”
Prophet Musa Said: “With The Willing Of Allah (SWT) You Will Find Me Patient, And I Shall Not Disobey You In Command.”
He said, “Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you about it mention.”
Al Khidr Responded By Saying: “If You Then, Follow Me, Do Not Ask Me About Anything Until I Mention It To You.”
So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, al-Khidh r tore it open. [Moses] said, “Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing.”
So Prophet Musa & Al Khidr Proceeded, Till, They Embarked On The Ship
& Al Khidr Wrecked It. Prophet Musa Said: “Have You Wrecked It So As
To Drown Its Occupants? Verily, You Have Committed A Evil, Dreadful Sin.”
[Al-Khidh r] said, “Did I not say that with me you would never be able to have patience?”(72).
Al Khidr Responded By Saying: “Did I Not Tell You (Prophet Musa), That You Would Not Have Enough Patience With Me?”
[Moses] said, “Do not blame me for what I forgot and do not cover me in my matter with difficulty”(73).
Prophet Musa Said: “Do Not Accuse Me For My Forgetfulness & Do Not Stress Me Out Of My Hardship.”
So they set out, until when they met a boy, al-Khidh r killed him. [Moses] said, “Have you killed a pure soul for other than [having killed] a soul? You have certainly done a deplorable thing” (74).
Thus Both Prophet Musa & Al Khidr Proceeded In Their Travel. They Met A Youth, Whom Al Khidr killed. Prophet Musa Said: “Have You Killed An Innocent Soul Who Had Killed No One? Verily, You Have Committed A Miserable, Evil & Dreadful Act.
[Al-Khidh r] said, “Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?”(75).
Al Khidr Said To Prophet Musa: “Did I Not Tell You That You Cannot Have Patience With Me?”
[Moses] said, “If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse.”
Prophet Musa Responded By Saying: “If I Ask You Anything After This Incident, Then Exclude Me From Your Association & Companionship. You Have Received An Ultimate Excuse From Me.”
So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. And they found therein a wall about to collapse, so al-Khidh r restored it. [Moses] said, “If you wished, you could have taken for it a payment” (77).
Then They Both Prophet Musa & Al Khidr Proceeded, Till They Came To The People Of A Village. Prophet Musa & Al Khidr Asked The Villagers For Food. However They Were Not Hospitable To Them. Then They Found Within The Village Premises A Wall Ready To Collapse And Al Khidr Set It Up Straight. Prophet Musa Said:” If You Had Wished, You Would Have Received Recompense For It!”
[Al-Khidh r] said, “This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of [the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience (78).
Al Khidr Replied Prophet Musa: At This Juncture: “This Is Parting Between Me & You, I Shall Tell You The Interpretation Of Those Things Which You Were Not Able To Have Patience About.
As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea. So I intended to cause defect in it as there was after them a king who seized every [good] ship by force (79).
Al Khidr Continued His Explanation To Prophet Musa: “As For The Ship, It Was Owned By Poor People Working At Sea. I Thus Wanted To Damage It. This Because There Was A King In Their Pursuit Who Seized Every Ship Forcefully.
And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief (80).
Further Continuing, His Explanation, Al Khidr Said “And As For The Youth, His Parents Were Believers, And We Feared Lest He Should Oppress His Parents Through Blasphemy, Violation & Infringement.
So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy (81).
And Thus We (SWT) Intended That Their Lord Should Exchange Him With Another Better In Righteousness, Grace And Mercy.
And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience” (82).
“And As For The Wall, It Belonged To Two Orphan Youth Boys In The Town; And There Was Beneath It (Buried) A Treasure Belonging To Them; And Their Father Was A Descent Righteous Man. And Thus Your Lord Intended That They Should Attain Their Age Of Full Strength & Maturity And Extract & Take Out Their Treasure As A Mercy From Your Lord Allah (SWT). And I Did It Not Of My Own Accord. That Is The Interpretation Of Those (Things) Which You Could Not Be Patience About.
And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, “I will recite to you about him a report” (83).
And They Ask You, O Muhammad (SAAS) About Dhul-Qarnain. Say: “I Shall Recite To You Something Of His Story.”
Indeed We established him upon the earth, and We gave him to everything a way (84).
Verily, We (SWT) Established Him Upon The Face Of The Earth, And We (SWT) Gave Him The Means Of Everything.
So he followed a way (85).
He Thus Followed A Route & Way.
Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it [as if] setting in a spring of dark mud, and he found near it a people. Allah said, “O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness” (86).
Until, When He Reached The Place Where The Sun Sets, He Found It Setting In A Spring Of Black Muddy (Hot) Water. And He Found Near It A Group People. We (Allah (SWT) Said (By Inspiration): “O Dhul-Qarnain! Either You Punish & Torment Them, Or Treat Them With Courtesy, Sympathy & Compassion.”
He said, “As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment (87).
He Said: “As For A Disbeliever In The Uniqueness & Oneness of Allah (SWT) Who Is Aberrant & Unjust, We Shall Punish Him And Then He Shall Be Brought Back (On Judgment Day To His Lord; Who Shall Be Punished With a Terrible Torment.
But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of Paradise, and we will speak to him from our command with ease”(88).
“However, For Whosoever Believes In The Greatness & Oneness Of Allah (SWT) And Does Righteous Deeds, He Shall Have The Best Reward. Paradise, And We (Dhul-Qarnain) Shall Speak With Him Mildly & With Kind Words For Instructions”.
Then he followed a way (89).
He Then Followed Yet Another Rout.
Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield (90).
Until, When He Arrived To The Place Of The Rising Sun, He Found It Rising On A People For Whom Allah (SWT) Provided No Shelter Against The Sun Rays.
Thus. And We had encompassed [all] that he had in knowledge (91).
And Thus (It Was)! And We (SWT) Knew All About Dhul-Qarnain.
Then he followed a way (92).
He Then Followed Yet Another (Third) Rout.
Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech (93).
Until, When He Reached The Valley Between The Two Mountains, He Found, Aside From Two Mountains, A People Who Barely Understood A Word.
They said, “O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?”
The Said: “O Dhul-Qarnain! Verily! Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog and Magog) Are Corrupt, Indecent & Perpetrating Huge Mischief In The Land. Shall We Then Pay You The Cost To Erect A Barrier Between Us And Them?”
He said, “That in which my Lord has established me is better [than what you offer], but assist me with strength; I will make between you and them a dam (95).
Dhul-Qarnain Said: “Whatever (Wealth, Authority & Power) Which My Lord Allah (SWT) Had Enforced Me With Is Better Than Your Tribute & Levy. Therefore, Assist Me With Strength Of Manpower & I Shall Erect Between You And Them A Barrier.
Bring me sheets of iron” – until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, “Blow [with bellows],” until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, “Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper”(96).
“Give Me Pieces (Blocks) Of Iron,” Then, When Dhu-Qarnain Had Filled Up The Gap Between The Two Mountain-Cliffs, He Said: “Blow,” Till When He Had Made It Red As Fire, He Said: “Bring Me Molten Copper To Pour Over It.”
So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration (97).
As A Result Ya’juj & Ma’juj (Gog and Magog) Were Made [With Allah (SWT)’s Intervention] Powerless To Scale It Due To Its Steepness & Height Or Alternatively Dig Through It.
[Dhul-Qarnayn] said, “This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true”(98).
Dhul-Qarnain Said: “This Is A Mercy From My Lord Allah (SWT). Thus, Upon The Arrival Of The Promise Of My Lord, He (SWT) Will Level It Down To The Ground. And The Promise Of My Lord Is Ever True.”
And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly (99).
And On That Day [i.e. The Day Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog and Magog) Will Come Out In Droves], We (SWT) Shall Leave Them To Surge Like Waves Piling One Over Another. The Trumpet (Of Judgment Day In The Hereafter) Shall Then Be Blown, And We (SWT) Shall Collect Them All Together.
And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display (100).
And On That Day We Shall Present Hell To The Disbelievers & Blasphemous, To View Clearly & Plainly.
Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear (101).
To Humankind Whose Eyes Had Been Under A Barrier (Or Veil Or Scarf) From SWT’s Reminder (The Glorious Quran), And Who Refuse To Hear It Being Recited.
Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of Me as allies? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging (102).
Then, Do Those Blasphemous Disbelievers Imagine That They Can Take My Servants [i.e., The Angels Allah (SWT)’s Messengers: Musa (Moses), Eissa Jesus, Son Of Maryam (Mary), etc.] as Awliya’ (Gods, Lords, Protectors, etc.) Other Than I (SWT)? Verily, We Have Prepared Hell (Eternal Inferno) As A Housing For The Blasphemous Disbelievers [In The Uniqueness & In The Oneness of Allah (SWT) & His Islamic Monotheism].
Say, [O Muhammad], “Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds (103)?
Say (O Muhammad, SAAS): “Shall We [Believers In Allah (SWT) Tell You About The Greatest Losers With Respect Of Their Deeds In Their Worldly Lifetime?
[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work”(104).
Those Are Humankind Whose Efforts Were Wasted In Their Worldly Lifetime With Aberrance [Away From Allah (SWT) & Islam], While They Thought They Were Acquiring Good Deeds!
Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any importance (105).
They Are The Humankind Who Deny The Revelation Of The Glorious Qur’an As Revealed To The Last Prophet & Messenger Of Islam Muhammad (SAAS). Therefore, The Blasphemous And Disbelievers Deeds Become Trivial, Null & Void And The Meeting With Allah (SWT) [In The Hereafter] On Resurrection Day Will Not Have Any Importance Or Weight!
That is their recompense – Hell – for what they denied and [because] they took My signs and My messengers in ridicule (106).
“That Shall Be Their Punishment & Penalty – “Hell”; Because They Disbelieved & Took The Ayat Of Allah (SWT) As Revealed in the Glorious Qur’an & My Messengers In Ridicule And Mockery!
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging,(107)
“Verily! Those Righteous Muslim Believers [In The Oneness & Uniqueness Of Allah (SWT)’s Islamic Monotheism] And Who Have Performed Righteous Deeds In Their Worldly Lifetime, Shall Enter The Gardens Of Al-Firdaws
(Paradise) For Their Eternal Residence & Dwelling.
Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer (108).
“Wherein They Shall Reside & Dwell Eternally. No Desire Or Compulsion Will They Have To Be Removed Therefrom.”
Say, “If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as a supplement”(109).
Say (O Muhammad, SAAS, Prophet Of Islam To Humankind). “If The Sea Were An Ink-Bowl For (Writing) The Words Of My Lord Allah (SWT), Surely & Evidently, The Sea Would Be Exhausted Before The Words Of My Lord Would Be Finished, Even If We Brought (Another Sea) Similar To Its Aid.”
Say, “I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord – let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone.”
Say (O Muhammad SAW): “I Am But A Human Being Like Any Other & It Has Been Inspired & Revealed To Me [By Allah (SWT)] That He (SWT) Is The ONE & ONLY True Deity. So Whoever Hopes For His Meeting With Allah (SWT), On Judgement Day, Let Him (Or Her) Perform Righteous Deeds And Associate No Partner In The Worship Of Allah (SWT).
