Surat Luqman
(Surah No. 31)
Ayat 1-34
Alif, Lam, Meem (1) .
These are Arabic letters in the Glorious Qur’an. Only Allah (SWT) knows their meaning.
These are verses of the wise Book (2).
These are the Ayat of the Glorious Qur’an.
As guidance and mercy for the doers of good (3).
These Ayat of the Glorious Qur’an are both A Guidance & Mercy from Allah (SWT) for those Muslims who perform Righteous Deeds.
Who establish prayer and give zakah, and they, of the Hereafter, are certain [in faith] (4).
Those Muslims who establish Five Time Daily Prayers, Give Out Zakat (Alms) & are certain & confident in their Belief in the Hereafter.
Those are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful (5).
Those are the Muslims who are on the Correct Guidance from Allah (SWT) & those are the fortunate humankind & successful on Judgment Day.
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment (6).
And some humankind (male or female) who buys enjoyment & cheerfulness in speech to mislead other humankind from the Path of Allah (SWT) with ill knowledge & ridicule. Those humankind (males or females) shall ultimately be tormented with humiliation.
And when our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was deafness in his ears. So, give him tidings of a painful punishment (7).
And if & upon The Ayat of Allah (SWT) are recited to the defiant disbeliever, he/she turns their backs in arrogance, as if he/she had not heard of them before, as if there was deafness in their ears. Hence, give them notification of painful punishment.
Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds – for them are the Gardens of Pleasure (8).
Truly, those humankinds who are believers in Allah (SWT), in Muhammad (SAAS) & in Islam and perpetrate righteous deeds, shall receive Gardens of Pleasure in the Hereafter.
Wherein they abide eternally; [it is] the promise of Allah [which is] truth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise (9).
Eternally abiding in Jannat Naeem. This is the “Truthful Promise” of Allah (SWT) & He (SWT) is the Supreme in Might, the Preceptive in Wisdom.
He created the heavens without pillars that you see and has cast firmly set mountains on the earth, lest it should shift with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down rain from the sky and made grow therein [plants] of every noble kind (10).
Allah (SWT) Created Heavens without support or columns which are visible to humankind. He (SWT) cast firmly set mountains on the face of the earth so that they would not shift with humankind. And disseminated therein from every living thing. And We (SWT) delivered rain from the sky, thus growing plantations from every magnanimous kind.
This is the creation of Allah. So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are clear errors (11).
This is Allah (SWT)’s Creation, Erection, Origination & Inception. Therefore, display to humankind those other than Him (SWT) who have attempted creation. But rather, those in aberration are in obvious errors.
And We had certainly given Luqman wisdom [and said], “Be grateful to Allah.” And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] – then indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy (12).
And We (SWT) Had Surely Granted Luqman prudence & foresight, Commanding humankind to be Thankful to Allah (SWT). And whosoever is grateful, then he/she is grateful for the advantage of himself/herself. Conversely, whosoever is blasphemous then Allah (SWT) is free from humankind’s needs & Praiseworthy.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, “O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice” (13).
And upon Prophet Luqman said to his son, while he was advising him, Oh my son, do not associate any deity or god with Allah (SWT). Surely & evidently associating any deity or idol with Allah (SWT) is an enormous injustice.
And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
And We (SWT) Have Admonished & Decreed upon humankind care for his/her parents. Their mother carried them, thus increasing her weakness upon weakness, then his/her weaning in two years. Hence be thankful to Allah (SWT) & to your parents, to Allah (SWT) all creation reverts.
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do (15).
However, if they try to force you to associate with Allah (SWT) that of which you lack knowledge of, do not grant them obedience, but partner them in this worldly life with relevant care. And follow the path of those who turn their backs to Allah (SWT) inrepentance. Then, in the hereafter all humankind shall return to Him (SWT) Who will inform each human what they perpetrated.
[And Luqman said], “O my son, indeed if wrong should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Indeed, Allah is Subtle and Acquainted (16).
And Prophet Luqman directed his speech to his son, “Saying: Oh, my son, if injustice is as small as the mustard seed situated within a rock or anywhere within the heavens or within the earth, Allah (SWT) Shall bring it forth. Truly, SWT is both Subtle & Acquainted.
O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] determination (17).
Prophet Luqman further said to his son, establish five daily compulsory Muslim prayers, encourage & admonish what is correct, forbid the erroneous & have patients over what has embellished you. Truly, all that you have encountered necessitates firm determination,
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful (18).
And do not turn your cheek contemptuously towards humankind and do not walk on the earth cheery & delighted. Allah (SWT) does not appreciate any humankind who are self-conceited & who show off.
And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys”(19).
Prophet Luqman continued advising his son saying moderate your walk and lower your voice, truly the most unpleasant of sounds is that of donkeys.
Do you not see that Allah has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allah without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him] (20).
Thus, do you Muslims not observe that He (SWT) Has Provided humankind with whatever is in between the heavens & the earth, profusely granting Favors from Him (SWT) to humankind? However, some humankind argue & dispute about the existence of Allah (SWT) through ignorance (ill-knowledge), or His Guidance (SWT) through an enlightened revelation.
And when it is said to them, “Follow what Allah has revealed,” they say, “Rather, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers.” Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze? (21).
And upon telling them, “Follow Allah (SWT)’ s Revelation”, they responded, we shall follow the path of our fathers before us. Despite the threat of Al Shaytan who invited them to torment the fire blaze.
And whoever submits his face to Allah while he is a doer of good – then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah will be the outcome of [all] matters (22).
And whosoever consents his/her face to Allah (SWT) while performing righteous deeds – then he/she shall grasp with the utmost & honorable handhold & to Allah (SWT) shall be the consequence of all matters.
And whoever has disbelieved – let not his disbelief grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts (23).
And whosoever is sacrilegious let them not grieve you (my son). To Allah (SWT) is their return & We (SWT) are Knowledgeable of what is in the chests of humankind.
We grant them enjoyment for a little; then We will force them to a massive punishment (24).
We (SWT) Offer them enjoyment for a meager time; then We (SWT) Compel them to a powerful torment.
And if you asked them, “Who created the heavens and earth?” they would surely say, “ Allah.” Say, “[All] praise is [due] to Allah “; but most of them do not know (25).
And if they are questioned. “Who is the Creator of the Heavens & the Earth?”, they would definitely say, “Allah (SWT).” Respond, “All Praise is Truly Is Due Allah (SWT); however, most humankind are unaware.
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy (26).
Allah (SWT) is the Sole Sovereign & Proprietor of what exists between the Heavens & Earth. Truly, He (SWT) is Independent of all human needs & Glorified on His Thrown.
And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allah would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. (27).
And if all the trees were on the planet earth were pens & the sea was ink, supplemented thereafter by seven more seas, Allah (SWT)’s words would not be fatigued. Truly, He (SWT) is Exalted in Might & Wisdom.
Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing (28).
The Creation of Humankind & their Resurrection shall not be natheless that of a single soul. Actually, Allah (SWT) Is All Hearing & All Seeing.
Do you not see that Allah causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allah, with whatever you do, is Acquainted? (29).
(Prophet Luqman) to his son,” Do you not Observe that Allah (SWT) causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that He (SWT) is Aware & Acquainted with whatever humankind perpetrates.
That is because Allah is the Truth, and what they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Highest, the Grand (30).
That is due to the reality that Allah (SWT) is the Ultimate Truth, & what humankind invokes other than Him (SWT) is mendacity & Allah (SWT) Is the Highest, Exalted & Grand.
Do you not see that ships sail through the sea in the favor of Allah that He may show you of His signs? Indeed, in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
(Prophet Luqman) to his son,” Do you not notice that ships sail upon the sea with the Grace & Mercy of Allah (SWT) to show humankind some of His Ayat. Truly, in that are signs for humankind who are uncomplaining & grateful.
And when waves come over them like canopies, they supplicate Allah, sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, there are [some] of them who are moderate [in faith]. And none rejects Our signs except everyone treacherous and ungrateful (32).
And upon sea waves cover the like canopies, humankind supplicates to Allah (SWT) sincere in their faith. However, He (SWT) upon Delivering them to dryland, some of them show mediocrity in faith. And non rejects Our Ayat, only those who are perfidious & unfaithful.
O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth, so let the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the Deceiver (33).
Oh humankind, be fearful of Allah (SWT) & fear a Day when no father shall benefit his son nor a son will benefit his father. Truly, the Promise of Allah (SWT) is the Truth, therefore, do not let the worldly lifetime deceive you regarding Allah (SWT) through human misguidance.
Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted (34).
Actually, Allah (SWT) exclusively has knowledge of the Hour (Resurrection Day), dispatches rain and is knowledgeable of what women’s wombs carry. And no human soul is aware of what it shall earn tomorrow. And no human soul realizes in which land it will meet its death. Indeed, Allah (SWT) is Aware & Familiar with what humankind perpetrates.
