Surat Ar Rum (The Romans)
(Surah No. 30)
Ayat 1–60
Alif, Lam, Meem (1).
These are Arabic letters in the Glorious Qur’an. Only Allah (SWT) knows their meaning.
Ar Rum have been defeated (2).
The Rum (Romans) have been defeated by the Persians. That event was before the Migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) to Makkah & Medina.
In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome (3).
In the land of the Arabian Peninsula. However, after their defeat, Ar Rum shall & will defeat the Persians.
Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice (4).
Ar Rum within three to ten years shall defeat the Persians & to Allah (SWT) Belongs the Ultimate Command & Decision. And on that day the Believers in Allah (SWT) will express gladness & jubilation for this outcome.
In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful (5).
With the Victory of Allah (SWT), He (SWT) Grants victory to whom of humankind He (SWT) Wills. And He (SWT) is the Exalted in Power & Might, the Merciful.
[It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know (6).
This is the Promise of Allah (SWT). He (SWT) does not Miscarry, Mistake or Go Wrong in His Promise. However, most humankind are unaware.
They know what is apparent of world life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware (7).
Humankind knows what is obvious & evident of world life. However, they are ignorant & unaware of the Hereafter.
Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers (8).
Has humankind not contemplated within themselves? That Allah (SWT) has not Created the Heavens & the Earth and All Creation in between through Truth & Wisdom for a determined period. And truly many humankinds in the meeting of Allah (SWT) in the Hereafter are blasphemous disbelievers.
Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how the end of those before them was? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they had built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidence. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves (9).
Have the blasphemous disbelievers not journeyed & voyaged through the earth & seen the termination of those before them? They were greater in number & power, plowing the earth & building it up more than previously. Their messengers arrived with clear evidence. And Allah (SWT) would not have unjustly treated them more than unjustly treating themselves.
Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them (10).
Subsequently, the aberrant unjust evil doers were the worst result since they rejected & refused the Ayat of Allah (SWT) and used to ridicule & mock them.
Allah begins creation; then He will repeat it; then to Him you will be returned (11).
Allah (SWT) Initiates & Commences All Creation (Humankind, Beasts, Living organisms). Subsequently He (SWT) Repeats it “indefinitely” until the arrival of Judgment Day.
And the Day the Hour appears the criminals will be in despair (12).
And the Day the Hereafter Emerges, the criminals from humankind shall be in desperation.
And there will not be any intercessors for them among their [alleged] partners, and they will [then] be disbelievers in their partners (13).
And there will not be any intermediary or middlemen for them amongst their professed or claimed partners & they shall then be blasphemous disbelievers in their partners.
And the Day the Hour appears – that Day they will become separated (14).
And the Day the Hereafter Appears. On that Day humankind will be separated. The Believers will enter Jannat Ul Naeem while the blasphemous disbelievers will enter Hell Fire,
And as for those who had believed and done righteous deeds, they will be in a garden [of Paradise], delighted (15).
Henceforth, for those who in their lifetime were Muslim Believers & performed righteous deeds, they will (in the Hereafter) be housed in Jannat Ul Naeem ‘greatly pleased’.
But as for those who disbelieved and denied Our verses and the meeting of the Hereafter, those will be brought into the punishment [to remain] (16).
However, for humankind who disbelieved & denied the Ayat of Allah (SWT) as revealed in the Glorious Qur’an & the Meeting & Submission to Allah (SWT) in the Hereafter, those shall be entered into torment to remain therein for punishment.
So exalted is Allah when you reach the evening and when you reach the morning (17).
Thus, Elevated, Superior & Triumphant is Allah (SWT) when Evening Sets & when Morning Appears.
And to Him is [due all] praise throughout the heavens and the earth. And [exalted is He] at night and when you are at noon (18).
And to Allah (SWT) Belongs All Praise Throughout the Heavens & the earth. And Glorified & Superior is He (SWT) during nighttime & when humankind is at midday.
He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. And thus, will you be brought out (19).
He (SWT) extracts the living from the dead & extricates the dead out of the living & Grants life to the earth after its death, and thus humankind shall be extricated.
And of His signs is that He created you from dust; then, suddenly, you were human beings dispersing [throughout the earth] (20).
And amongst the Ayat of Allah (SWT) is that He (SWT) Created humankind from dust particles, then subsequently you become Human beings dispersed & scattered on the surface of the earth.
And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who give thought (21).
And amongst the Ayat of Allah (SWT) are the Creation for humankind husbands & wives for intermarrying & for seeking tranquility in them. And He Granted humankind affection & mercy. Evidently in that are signs for humans who give thought.
And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed, in that are signs for those of knowledge (22).
And from the Ayat of Allah (SWT) are the Creation of the Heavens & the Earth & the divergence & variation of your languages & skin coloring. Evidently, there are people with knowledge.
And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed, there are signs for people who listen (23).
And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed, there are signs for people who listen.
And of His signs is [that] He shows you the lightning [causing] fear and aspiration, and He sends down rain from the sky by which He brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, there are signs for people who use reason (24).
And amongst the Creation of Allah (SWT) is that He (SWT) exposes & reveals the lightning in the skies of the earth, thus inducing fear & anxiety in humankind. Allah (SWT) releases rain from the skies, thus brings to life the desecrate earth after its lifelessness. Truly, in that are Ayat for Humankind who use reason.
And of His signs is that the heavens and earth remain by His command. Then when He calls you with a [single] call from the earth, immediately you will come forth (25).
And of the Ayat of Allah (SWT), the Heavens & Earth Rise Being At His Command. Subsequently, upon calling humankind a Single Call by Allah (SWT) from the earth, then all humankind shall instantly come forth.
And to Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and earth. All are to Him devoutly obedient (26).
And Allah (SWT) Owns whatever Creation exists in the Heavens & the Earth. All His Creation are Bequeathed, Devoted & Dedicated to Him (SWT).
And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is [even] easier for Him. To Him belongs the highest attribute in the heavens and earth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise (27).
And it is Allah (SWT) Who Starts All Creation, then He (SWT) Repeats it. That Repetition is even easier for Allah (SWT). He (SWT) is Supreme & Eminent in Power, Authority & Wisdom.
He presents to you an example from yourselves. Do you have among those whom your right hands possess any partners in what We have provided for you so that you are equal therein [and] would fear them as your fear of one another [within a partnership]? Thus, do We detail the verses for a people who use reason (28).
Allah (SWT) offers humankind an example from their own selves. Do you have among those whom your right hands possess (An Islamic Law between Male & Female) any partners in what We (SWT) have provided for you so that you are equal therein [and] would fear them as your fear of one another [within a partnership]? Hence, do We (SWT) characterize the Ayat for humankind who use reasoning.
But those who wrong follow their [own] desires without knowledge. Then who can guide one whom Allah has sent astray? And for them there are no helpers (29).
However, those who erroneously follow their own desires without being aware. Hence, who can guide humankind whom Allah (SWT) has aberrantly delivered astray? And for that humankind there is no assistance from Allah (SWT).
So, direct your face toward religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people. No change should be in the creation of Allah. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know (30).
Therefore. Oh Muhammad (SAAS) direct your face towards Islam & Adhere to the Fitrah of Allah (SWT) via adhering to Al Hanifiyyah of Prophets Ibrahim & Ismaeel (AS). This Hanifiyyah, Allah (SWT) Has Created all humankind. There is no change in the Creation of Allah. That is the proper & valid Muslim Religion. However, many Muslims are unaware.
[Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of those who associate others with Allah (31)
Turning to Allah (SWT) with Repentance, Fearing Him (SWT), Establishing five-time daily Muslim Prayers & not associating any humankind or idol with Allah (SWT).
[Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has (32).
And Oh Muhammad (SAAS) do not be amongst those who subdivide their Unified Islamic Religion [As Commanded By Allah (SWT)] into sects, each sect jubilating with the sect they originate from.
And when adversity touches the people, they call upon their Lord, turning in repentance to Him. Then when He lets them taste mercy from Him, at once a party of them associate others with their Lord (33).
And upon impinging on humankind destress & adversity, they supplicate to Allah (SWT) seeking repentance. Thence, when He (SWT) makes them taste Mercy & Grace, some of them associate idols & deities with Him (SWT).
So that they will deny what We have granted them. Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know (34).
In order that they blasphemously disbelieve in what We (SWT) Have Granted them. Therefore, revel & relish yourselves, since you shall get to know what awaits you.
Or have We sent down to them an authority, and it speaks of what they were associating with Him? (35).
Or Have We (SWT) Delivered to them an authority which utters as to what they were Associating with Him (SWT).
And when We let the people taste mercy, they rejoice therein, but if evil afflicts them for what their hands have put forth, immediately they despair (36).
And upon Granting humankind a Taste from Our Mercy, they are delighted & get excited. However, whenever wickedness strikes them for what they have committed, they are in anguish & distress.
Do they not see that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed, in that there are signs for people who believe (37).
Do humankind fail to observe that Allah (SWT) provides sustenance for whom He (SWT) Wills & limits it. Surely, in that are Ayat in humankind who are believers.
So, give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveler. That is best for those who desire the countenance of Allah, and it is they who will be successful (38).
Hence, Give Oh Muhmmad (SAAS) the relative his right, in addition to the needy and traveler. That is ideal for those who desire the countenance [the Face of Allah (SWT)] & they shall be successful on Judgment Day.
And whatever you give for interest to increase within the wealth of people will not increase with Allah. But what you give in zakah (Alms), desiring the countenance of Allah – those are the multipliers (39).
And whatever you give in terms of interest to increase amongst the wealth of humankind, shall not increase with Allah (SWT). However, whatever you give in Zakah (Alms), seeking the Face of Allah (SWT), then those are the multipliers amongst humankind.
Allah is the one who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, and then will give your life. Are there any of your “partners” who do anything of that? Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him (40).
Allah (SWT) is the Sole Creator of All Creation including the Heavens & the Earth. He (SWT) has Created all humankind, as well as all other living organisms Providing them with all necessary Sustenance. He (SWT) will Cause the death of humankind, then Brings them back to life. Are there any “partners” of yours who implement anything of these acts? Glorified & Elevated is He (SWT) above what the blasphemous disbelievers associate with Him (SWT).
Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness] (41).
Depravity & deterioration have been revealed & become evident, over the earth’s land & sea due to what the hands of humankind have perpetrated, hence He (SWT) may get them to savor & relish the consequences of what they have committed, maybe they will revert to justice & fairness.
Say, [O Muhammad], “Travel through the land and observe how was the end of those before. Most of them were associators [of others with Allah ] (42).
Say Oh Muhammad (SAAS), Travel on the land and perceive & behold how was the consequence of those humankind before Islam. The majority associated deities & idols with Allah (SWT).
So direct your face toward the correct religion before a Day comes from Allah of which there is no repelling. That Day, they will be divided (43).
Therefore Oh Muhammad (SAAS) direct your face towards the Correct Religion (The Muslim Religion) before Allah (SWT) Brings Forward A Day for which there is No Repelling from Him (SWT). On that day the Blasphemous Disbelievers shall be scattered into various sects & persuations.
Whoever disbelieves – upon him is [the consequence of] his disbelief. And whoever does righteousness – they are for themselves preparing (44).
Whosoever is a blasphemous disbeliever, then he/she are sacrilegious & profane. On the other hand, whosoever performs righteous deede from male or female then they are prepring for themselves to Face Allah (SWT) in the Hereafter.
That He may reward those who have believed and done righteous deeds out of His bounty. Indeed, He does not like the disbelievers (45).
In Order That He (SWT) may Recompense humankind who have believed in Islam & Muhammad (SAAS) & performed righteous deeds. Truly, Allah (SWT) dislikes blasphemous disbelievers.
And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bringers of good tidings and to let you taste His mercy and so the ships may sail at His command and so you may seek of His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful (46).
And from the Ayat of Allah (SWT) is that He (SWT) sends winds as glad tidings, letting humankind taste His Mercy (SWT). And that ships can sail at the Command of Allah (SWT), seeking His Bounty, maybe you will be grateful & satisfied.
And We have already sent messengers before you to their peoples, and they came to them with clear evidences; then We took retribution from those who committed crimes, and incumbent upon Us was support of the believers (47).
And Oh Muhammad (SAAS), We (SWT) delivered messengers for you to their followers who arrived with clear evidence. Subsequently, We (SWT) took Revenge from committers of crimes & it was imperative upon Allah (SWT) to make the Believers victorious.
It is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds and spread them in the sky however He wills, and He makes them fragments so you see the rain emerge from within them. And when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, immediately they rejoice (48).
Allah (SWT) Delivers the winds which activate the clouds, spreading them in the skies in whichever way He (SWT) Wills. Then He (SWT) divides them into fragments, thus humankind sees the rain emerging from within. And at the instant that Allah (SWT) causes rain to fall upon whom He (SWT) desires from humankind, they are promply exuberant.
Although they were, before it was sent down upon them – before that, in despair (49).
And that humankind before rain was delivered upon them through the Mercy & Grace of Allah (SWT), before that they were in distress & desperaion.
So observe the effects of the mercy of Allah – how He gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, that [same one] will give life to the dead, and He is over all things competent.
Hence, Oh Muhammad (SAAS) watch & monitor the Mercy of Allah (SWT), how He (SWT) Grants Life to the earth subsequent to its desolateness. Indeed, He (SWT) Shall Grant life to all dead humankind and He (SWT) is Capable & Competent over All entities & things.
But if We should send a [bad] wind and they saw [their crops] turned yellow, they would remain thereafter disbelievers (51).
However. If Allah (SWT) would deliver sinister & malignant wind & they saw their planted crops turn yellow, they would stop believing, thus becoming disbelievers.
So indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs, retreating (52).
Hence, Oh Muhammad (SAAS), you will not be able to make the dead hear nor will you make the profoundly deaf hear the call when they turn their backs etreating.
And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [in submission to Allah ].
And you Oh Muhammad (SAAS) are unable to steer the visionless away from their aberrance. You can only make those listen who believe in the Ayat of the Glorious Qur’an & who are True Muslims.
Allah is the one who created you from weakness, then made after weakness strength, then made after strength weakness and white hair. He creates what He wills, and He is the Knowing, the Competent (54).
Allah (SWT) is the Sole Creator of all living humankind as well as all other creaters. He (SWT) Created humankind from weakness, then developed from weakness strength, then developed weakness from strength with grey hair. He (SWT) Creates whatever He (SWT) wishes, for He (SWT) is the All Knowing, the All Competent.
And the Day the Hour appears the criminals will swear they had remained but an hour. Thus they were deluded (55).
And On The Day when the Hereafter becoms apparent, the criminal blasphemous disbelievers will swear that they had only remained for a “single hour”. And thus this is how the criminal blasphemous disbelievers will & shall be tricked & deceived.
But those who were given knowledge and faith will say, “You remained the extent of Allah ‘s decree until the Day of Resurrection, and this is the Day of Resurrection, but you did not used to know” (56).
However, for those who were gifted & endowed with knowledge & faith from Allah (SWT) shall say, “You continued to exist with Allah (SWT)’s Decree until Resurrection Day, & this is Reserrection Day, but humankind were not aware.
So that Day, their excuse will not benefit those who wronged, nor will they be asked to appease [ Allah ].
Thus, on that Day, the unjust shall not benefit the ransgressors & offenders who were unjust, nor will they be asked to consiliate.
And We have certainly presented to the people in this Qur’an from every [kind of] example. But, [O Muhammad], if you should bring them a sign, the disbelievers will surely say, “You [believers] are but falsifiers” (58).
And We (SWT) have indeed presented to humankind in this Glorious Qur’an from any & all of examples. However, Oh Muhammad (SAAS) if you put forward an Ayah, the blasphemous disbelievers will definitely say,”You Muslim Believers are fabricators”.
Thus does Allah seal the hearts of those who do not know (59).
Hence, Allah (SWT) Seals the hearts of humankind who are ignorant & unaware.
So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And let them not disquiet you who are not certain [in faith] (60).
Henceforth, Oh Muhammad (SAAS) be Patient. Truly, Allah (SWT)’s Promise is the Full Truth. And let those whose faith is uncertain cause you worry & anxiety. Allah (SWT) shall always be on your side.
