Al Shawkani Exegesis – Surat Al Furqan

(No 25)

Ayah 1-77

25:1

Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner – (1).

Precious & Blessed is He (SWT) who revealed to humankind the Furqan (the Criterion) as a warner for humankind.

25:2

He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and who has not taken a son and has not had a partner in dominion and has created each thing and determined it with [precise] determination (2).

To Him (SWT) belongs the dominance & the supremacy of both the heavens and earth without begetting offspring or having a partner in His Dominion, Creating all & everything with determined precision.

25:3

But they have taken besides Him gods which create nothing, while they are created, and possess not for themselves any harm or benefit and possess not [power to cause] death or life or resurrection (3).

And blasphemous disbelievers have chosen other than Allah (SWT) as deities which are unable to create anything for themselves nor harm or benefit anyone. Also, they do not possess the power to cause death, life or resurrection.

25:4

And those who disbelieve say, “This [Qur’an] is not except a falsehood he invented, and another people assisted him in it.” But they have committed injustice and a lie (4).

And the blasphemous disbelievers said: “This Glorious Qur’an is an invention by Muhammad (SAAS)” who was assisted by a different people who have perpetrated & committed injustice.

25:5

And they say, “Legends of the former peoples which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon” (5).

And the blasphemous disbelievers would continue to say, “Myths & tales of previous peoples who Muhammad (SAAS) memorized, after being dictated to morning & evening (since Muhammad was Illiterate).

25:6

Say, [O Muhammad], “It has been revealed by He who knows [every] secret within the heavens and the earth. Indeed, He is ever Forgiving and Merciful” (6).

Say, Oh Muhammad (SAAS) the Glorious Qur’an has been revealed (to me) by Allah (SWT) who knows all & every secret within the heavens & the earth. Truly He (SWT) is Eternally Forgiving & Merciful.

25:7

And they say, “What is this messenger that eats food and walks in the markets? Why was there not sent down to him an angel so he would be with him a warner? (7).

The blasphemous disbelievers of Islam & the Messager Muhammad (SAAS), say (mocking & ridiculing) why does this messenger eat food & walks in the markets? Should he not have had an angel delivered with him as a warner?

25:8

Or [why is not] a treasure presented to him [from heaven], or does he [not] have a garden from which he eats?” And the wrongdoers say, “You follow not but a man affected by magic” (8).

Or he is presented with a treasure or would have a garden to feed himself. And the dishonest transgressors would say, “You follow a man affected by magic”. 25:9

Look how they strike comparisons for you; but they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a way.

Observe Oh Muhammad (SAAS) at how the aberrant disbelievers drive comparisons for you. However, they went astray, and they could not find a way.

25:10

Blessed is He who, if He wished, could have made for you [something] better than that – gardens beneath which rivers flow – and could make for you palaces.

Glorious & Blessed is He (SWT), whom if He wished, could have made for you Oh Muhammad (SAAS) better than that -gardens beneath which rivers flow- and could make palaces for you, Oh Muhammad (SAAS).

25:11

But they have denied the Hour, and We have prepared for those who deny the Hour a Blaze (11).

However, the blasphemous disbelievers have denied the Hereafter & We (SWT) have prepared for those who deny the reality of the Hereafter fire with an inferno.

25:12

When the Hellfire sees them from a distant place, they will hear its fury and roaring (12).

Once the hereafter Hellfire sees the blasphemous disbeliever from a distance, they will hear its ferocity & temper. 25:13

And when they are thrown into a narrow place therein bound in chains, they will cry out thereupon for destruction (13).

And upon being tossed into a narrow place inside bound in chains, they shall cry out for destruction.

 25:14

[They will be told], “Do not cry this Day for one destruction but cry for much destruction”(14).

They shall be told, “Do not Cry for one destruction but cry for Complete Destruction”. 25:15

Say, “Is that better or the Garden of Eternity which is promised to the righteous? It will be for them a reward and destination (15).

Say Oh Muhmmad (SAAS),” Is that better or the Garden of Eternity which Allah (SWT) Promised the righteous humankind? For them it will be a recompense & objective. 25:16

For them therein is whatever they wish, [while] abiding eternally. It is ever upon your Lord a promise [worthy to be] requested (16).

For the promised righteous humankind whatever they wish while eternally surviving. It is a promise by Allah (SWT) worthy of being requested.

25:17

And [mention] the Day He will gather them and that which they worship besides Allah and will say, “Did you mislead these, my servants, or did they stray from the way?” (17).

And on the Day SWT Will Gather humankind along with the blasphemous disbelievers, Saying Did you mislead my servants, or did they go astray themselves?

25:18

They will say, “Exalted are You! It was not for us to take besides You any allies. But You provided comforts for them and their fathers until they forgot the message and became a people ruined” (18).

They replied, Oh SWT Exalted Are You. We would not have taken other than you any Allies. Nonetheless, You SWT furnished them & their fathers with comfort until they forgot Your Message (The Glorious Qur’an) becoming devastated people. 25:19

So, they will deny you, [disbelievers], in what you say, and you cannot avert [punishment] or [find] help. And whoever commits injustice among you – We will make him taste a great punishment (19).

Hence, the blasphemous disbelievers shall deny you what you say, and you cannot prevent & avoid punishment or seek help. And whosoever perpetrates injustice amongst you, We (SWT) will have him taste great chastisement.

 25:20

And We did not send before you, [O Muhammad], any of the messengers except that they ate food and walked in the markets. And We have made some of you [people] as trial for others – will you have patience? And ever is your Lord, Seeing.

And We (SWT) did not Deliver before you, Oh Muhammad (SAAS) previous Messengers who (as humans) typically ate food & walked in the markets. And We (SWT) have made some of you as forbearance for others, thus, will you have patients? And Allah (SWT) Is the Observant over all creation.

25:21

And those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, “Why were not angels sent down to us, or [why] do we [not] see our Lord?” They have certainly become arrogant within themselves and [become] insolent with great insolence (21).

And Allah (SWT) Said, “And those do not expect meeting with Us say, had angles been delivered to us, or what is the reason that we do not see our Lord, Allah (SWT)? They certainly have become arrogant & offensive having exceptional impertinence.

25:22

The day they see the angels – no good tidings will there be that day for the criminals, and [the angels] will say, “Prevented and inaccessible” (22).

The day humankind sees the angles, no glad tidings that day for the transgressors and the angles shall say, “preventable & inaccessible”.

25:23

And We will regard what they have done of deeds and make them as dust dispersed (23).

And We (SWT) will regard what humankind have perpetrated in their lifetime of good deeds as disseminated dust due to their disbelief & blasphemy.

25:24

The companions of Paradise, that Day, are in better settlement and better resting place (24).

On that Day, the Companions of Paradise are in better accommodation & better settlement.

25:25

And [mention] the Day when the heavens will split open with [emerging] clouds, and the angels will be sent down in successive descent (25).

And mention Oh Muhammad (SAAS) the Day when the heavens shall fracture open with clouds & the angels will be delivered down to the earth in successive groups By Allah (SWT).

25:26

True sovereignty, that Day, is for the Most Merciful. And it will be upon the disbelievers a difficult Day (26).

On Judgement Day, True & Complete Sovereignty belongs to the Most Merciful Allah (SWT). That day will be difficult upon blasphemous disbelievers.

25:27

And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, “Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way (27).

And on the Day the aberrant & unjust will bite on their hands regretting their action, saying, “Oh I wish I had taken with the Final Messenger Muhammad (SAAS) his path & procedure.

25:28

Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend (28).

Oh, woe upon me! I wish I had not taken that impersonating (Shaytan) as a friend.

25:29

He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter.”

Al Shaytan deliberately distant me from the Remembrance of Allah (SWT) having it being revealed to me through the Glorious Qur’an. Indeed, Al Shaytan to mankind a deserter & and an enemy.

25:30

And the Messenger has said, “O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’an as [a thing] abandoned” (30).

And the Messenger of Islam, Muhammad (SAAS) said, Oh Allah (SWT) Verily my Muslim followers have deserted & neglected this Glorious Qur’an.

25:31

And thus, we have made for every prophet an enemy from among the criminals. But sufficient is your Lord as a guide and a helper.

And thus, We (SWT) have provided for every prophet (messenger) an enemy from amongst the tyrant criminals, offenders & transgressors. However, Oh Muhammad (SAAS) Allah (SWT) is both your guide & aid.

25:32

And those who disbelieve say, “Why was the Qur’an not revealed to him all at once?” Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly.

And the blasphemous disbelievers said, “Why was the Glorious Qur’an not revealed to Muhammad (SAAS) in one Installment. Allah (SWT) Replied, to Prophet Muhammad (SAAS), “It is so that We (SWT) May Strengthen Your Heart, Revealing it in Instalments, Distinctly & Obviously Clear to you Oh Muhammad (SAAS).

25:33

And they do not come to you with an argument except that We bring you the truth and the best explanation (33).

And Oh Muhammad (SAAS) the blasphemous disbelievers cannot come up with an example excepting that We (SWT) bring you Oh Prophet Of Islam the truth along with the appropriate explanation.

25:34

The ones who are gathered on their faces to Hell – those are the worst in position and farthest astray in [their] way (34).

Those Humankind who are gathered with their faces towards the Hellfire, in the Hereafter & are in the overwhelmed & vanquished position. Those have the worst adrift & astray situation.

25:35

And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture and appointed with him his brother Aaron as an assistant (35).

And We (SWT) evidently revealed to Prophet Mousa the Tawra (Scripture) Appointing with him his brother Haroun as his assistant.

25:36

And We said, “Go both of you to the people who have denied Our signs.” Then We destroyed them with [complete] destruction.

And We (SWT) Commanded Prophet Mousa & His brother, “Go to the people who have denied Our Signs.” Then We (SWT) Completely Destructed those deniers of Our Signs.

 25:37

And the people of Noah – when they denied the messengers, We drowned them, and We made them for mankind a sign. And We have prepared for the wrongdoers a painful punishment (37).

And the followers of Prophet Nouh, upon their denial of the messengers, We (SWT) submerged & drowned them making them a gesture for humankind. Preparing for the transgressors a painful penalty & retribution.

25:38

And [We destroyed] ‘Aad and Thamud and the companions of the well and many generations between them (38).

And We (SWT) obliterated Aad & Thamud and the people of the well, & many generations in between.

25:39

And for each We presented examples [as warnings], and each We destroyed with [total] destruction.

And We (SWT) presented examples resembling Warnings & each We (SWT) destroyed with complete elimination. 25:40

And they have already come upon the town which was showered with a rain of evil. So have they not seen it? But they are not expecting resurrection (40).

And the disbelievers of Mecca came across the people of Lot who were showered with stones of evil. Thus, did they not observe what was about to wipe them out?

25:41

And when they see you, [O Muhammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], “Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a messenger? (41).

And upon sighting you Oh Muhammad (SAAS) the blasphemous disbelievers describe you as absurd & hilarious,” Is he whom Allah (SWT) has Delivered as a Messenger?

25:42

He almost would have misled us from our gods had we not been steadfast in [worship of] them.” But they are going to know, when they see the punishment, who is farthest astray in [his] way (42).

Muhammad (SAAS) nearly caused us to go astray from our idols had we not been firm & resolute in our worship of them. However, the nonbelievers, when they see their chastisement, shall know who is most isolated in his route.

25:43

Have you seen the one who takes as his god his own desire? Then would you be responsible for him? (43).

Oh Muhammad (SAAS) Prophet of Islam, have you seen the one who grasps his deity at his own desire & preference? Then would you be accountable & responsible for him?

25:44

Or do you think that most of them hear or reason? They are not except like livestock. Rather, they are [even] more astray in [their] way (44).

Or do you, Oh Muhammad (SAAS), think that most hear, think or reason? Indeed, they are like livestock. They are more astray & aberrant.

 25:45

Have you not considered your Lord – how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it stationary? Then We made the sun for it an indication (45).

Have you Oh Muhammad (SAAS) seen how Allah (SWT) elongated the “shadow” & Had He (SWT) intended He (SWT) Could have made it passive & stationary? Then Allah (SWT) Made the Sun a reference & designation.

 25:46

Then We hold it in hand for a brief grasp.

Thence, We (SWT) Grasped the sun shadow, as the sunshine recedes.

25:47

And it is He who has made the night for you as clothing and sleep [a means for] rest and has made the day a resurrection.

And it is He (SWT) Who has made for humankind night for sleeping to rest & the daytime for revival from sleep for.

25:48

And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy, and We send down from the sky pure water (48).

And Allah (SWT) Who Has Delivered winds as glad tidings representing His Mercy (SWT). Also, He (SWT) Sent Down from the heavens pure water.

25:49

That We may bring to life thereby a dead land and give it as drink to those We created of numerous livestock and men (49).

Such that We (SWT) revive desolate & deserted land to life through watering livestock & humankind.

25:50

And We have certainly distributed it among them that they might be reminded, but most of the people refuse except disbelief.

And We (SWT) Mentioned the Diversification of clouds & rain and its distribution around the world for reminding humankind of the Glory of Creation of Allah (SWT). However, humankind was in disbelief.

25:51

And if We had willed, We could have sent into every city a warner (51).

And if We (SWT) Had Desired, We (SWT) could have delivered into every city an omen. However, you Prophet of Islam Muhmmad (SAAS) were chosen as an Omen for all humankind.

25:52

So do not obey the disbelievers and strive against them with the Qur’an a great striving.

Thus, Oh Muhammad (SAAS) do not submit to the blasphemous disbelievers striving against them with the Glorious Qur’an & Reciting to them what was revealed in this Final Revelation to You Messenger of Islam.

25:53

And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and prohibiting partition (53).

And it is He (SWT) Who synchronously & concurrently separated between the two seas: one fresh & sweet, while the other salty & bitter. He (SWT) created between both seas a barrier & forbidden partition.

25:54

And it is He who has created from water a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [concerning creation] (54).

And He (SWT) is the sole Creator of humankind from water Creating for relationship through lineage & marriage And Allah (SWT) is Ever Competent regarding His Creation.

25:55

But they worship rather than Allah that which does not benefit them or harm them, and the disbeliever is ever, against his Lord, an assistant [to Satan] (55).

However, instead of worshipping solely Allah (SWT), the blasphemous disbelievers worship idols which neither benefit nor harm them. And blasphemy is ever an assistant to Al Shaytan.

25:56

And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner (56).

And We (SWT) did not deliver you Oh Muhammad (SAAS) except as bringer of glad tidings & a warner.

25:57

Say, “I do not ask of you for it any payment – only that whoever wills might take to his Lord away.”

Say Oh Muhammad (SAAS), “I do not ask of potential Muslims teaching them the Glorious Qur’an or for spreading the Message of Islam, only that for those who seek for Allah (SWT) a way.

25:58

And rely upon the Ever Living who does not die and exalt Allah with His praise. And sufficient is He to be, with the sins of His servants, Acquainted (58).

And Oh Muhammad (SAAS) place your complete trust upon Allah (SWT) who is Ever Living & supplicate to His Mercy, being acquainted with the sins of His servants.

25:59

He who created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six days and then established Himself above the Throne – the Most Merciful, so ask about Him one well informed (59).

He (SWT) Who Created the Heavens & the Earth and whatever exists in between in six days, then established Himself upon the Throne, the Most Merciful, hence ask about Allah (SWT) a well-informed Final Messenger- Muhammad (SAAS).

25:60

And when it is said to them, “Prostrate to the Most Merciful,” they say, “And what is the Most Merciful? Should we prostrate to that which you order us?” And it increases them in aversion (60).

And upon Commanding the blasphemous disbelievers to, “Prostrate to the Most Merciful Allah (SWT), they respond, “Do we prostrate to that which you Command us? And that augmented them in repugnance & avoidance.

(Prostration at the end of this Ayah in the Direction of Makkah).

 25:61

Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a [burning] lamp and luminous moon (61).

Blessed & Exalted is He (SWT) Who has located & situated in the Sky Huge Stars Creating Therein Glowing Floodlight & a Radiant Shining Moon.

25:62

And it is He who has made the night and the day in succession for whoever desires to remember or desires gratitude (62).

And it is Allah (SWT) who Created Night & Day successively & sequentially occurring during day & night for whoever aspires to remember Allah (SWT) & seeks Gratitude from His Glory (SWT).

25:63

And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace, (63).

And the servants of the Most Merciful Allah (SWT) are those who gently walk on the & when the illiterate & unintelligent rudely address them they reply to them peacefully. 25:64

And those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer] (64).

And those Muslims who devote a portion of their night to Allah (SWT) prostrating & standing in prayer.

25:65

And those who say, “Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering; (65).

And those Muslims who supplicate to Allah (SWT), “Oh Allah (SWT) prevent us from the chastisement of Hell. Verily, its punishment is bonding.

25:66

Indeed, it is evil as a settlement and residence” (66).

Verily, the inferno of Hell is an evil settlement & residence.

25:67

And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, among that, [justly] moderate (67).

And those Muslims who upon spending from their wealth, do not lavishly or extortionately spend, but rather evenly & moderately.

25:68

And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty (68).

And those Muslims who do not invoke with Allah (SWT) another deity or idol or murder a soul of a humankind which Allah (SWT) Has Forbidden to be killed (Except Lawfully) & do not perpetrate sexual intercourse beyond lawful marriage. And whosoever is found guilty should be penalized.

 25:69

Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated – (69).

The penalty & chastisement for such humankind On Judgment & Resurrection Day shall be multiplied penalization, and he will remain in the hellfire humiliated.

25:70

Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful (70).

Excluding those Muslims who repent, believe in Islam & Muhammad (SAAS) performing righteous deeds. Allah (SWT) shall exchange their bad actions with descent ones. And Allah (SWT) is Forever Forgiving & Merciful.

25:71

And he who repents and does righteousness does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted] repentance (71).

And whosoever repents doing righteous deeds, then He (She) verily shall get accepted repentance from Allah (SWT).

 25:72

And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood, and when they pass near ill speech, they pass by with dignity (72).

And those are the Muslims who do not testify to falsehood & upon passing near indignant speech, they pass by with dignity.

25:73

And those who, when reminded of the verses of their Lord, do not fall upon them deaf and blind (73).

And those are the Muslims who upon being reminded of the Ayat of the Glorious Qur’an they do not fall upon them deaf & blind but rather listening & observing the various Ayat of the Glorious Qur’an & fully understanding them & their Exegesis (Tafseer).
